Welcome to the Master’s degree program Materials Science and Engineering!

On this page, you will get all the information you need for your first days at our department. Please, read them carefully!

Master’s Welcome and Introductory Meeting

The Master’s welcome and introductory meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 22nd 2025, at 10 am in lecture hall H14 in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, and on Zoom for those of you, who have not yet arrived in Erlangen by then.

During this meeting, you will get all the information you need about the structure and organization of your Master’s program as well as important dates for your first weeks.

 

Onboarding and Pre-Teaching Week

During the onboarding week, you will visit each of our nine institutes, meet the scientists and learn about the respective  research focuses, you will get introductory lectures and an initial lab course. In addition, there will be the preliminary meetings for the core subjects, where you get all the information about the respective courses (mandatory and electives) that you need to take.

 

Program

IMPORTANT

The general safety briefing taking place on Friday, April 25th at 12:15 pm is mandatory! Without attending the safety briefing you allowed to attent the practical courses in our laboratories!


Please note

Only the lectures of the onboarding week are accessible via Zoom. The regular lectures that start on April 28th have to be attended in presence.

It is expected that you participate in the program of the Onboarding Week in presence!
However, in case you cannot participate in the onboarding week due to visa problems or other unforeseen events, we are streaming the lectures live via zoom.
You can find the onboarding week lecture times and the links to the respective Zoom meetings in the StudOn group.

After the onboarding week, the recorded sessions will be uploaded on StudOn as well so that you can review them anytime.

The main purpose of the lecture briefing sessions is to provide an overview of the courses offered by our institutes and to help coordinate suitable dates for your chosen subjects, aiming to minimize scheduling overlaps as much as possible.
These meetings provide an opportunity for you to gain a clear understanding and orientation regarding the core subjects you will be selecting in your master’s program.

 

BBQ Get together

The onboarding week will end with a relaxed BBQ to which you are all cordially invited.

In order to plan this part of the week properly, we would like to ask for your dietary preferences.
